Integrating spheres simplify complex optical measurements. An integrating sphere is a hollow, spherical chamber coated internally with a high reflectance coating that exhibits diffuse reflectance. When combined with a photodetector or spectrometer, an integrating sphere acts as a wide-angle, directionally-insensitive collector of light and is ideal for measuring large, divergent, high power or any “difficult-to-measure” light sources. An internally illuminated integrating sphere emits a field of spatially and angularly uniform luminance or radiance which is perfect for testing and calibrating imaging systems, detector arrays and remote sensing instruments. When used with a light source and photodetector, an integrating sphere can be used for measuring the total reflectance or transmittance of diffusely reflecting or transmitting materials. SphereOptics is proud to be a partner for Labsphere – the integrating sphere company.
